I’ve been on this beach all day.
I’ve swam three times, run along the sand,
collected shells, dozed, read, eaten, watched the windsurfers, made things,
thought things, written some down and listened to the wind.
There have been others.
Dogs too.
It’s night now.
I am alone.
The sky which was grey, then dark, then
wild, then blue, then crimson is black now.
Lights across the bay light that darkness.
Ships out to sea show me where the horizon
lies.
I lie too, sheltered from the wind that
still refuses to be still.
I will sleep here, rocked by that wind,
eased by the waves and when I wake I will bathe in the sea’s embrace.
