A Christmas advent (5)

Should Dolly Parton’s “Hard Candy Christmas” be part of this yuletide Bitsnbobs Advent?

This is a question that is beginning to trouble me.

I came across the ditty whilst researching the next 26 posts and the four that preceded this one, but it hadn’t made the initial cut of what, admittedly, is an incomplete list.

Then the emails started coming in, suggesting at first, imploring afterwards and now practically begging.

How did anyone know?

It’s a mystery.

But Christmas itself is a bit of a mystery.

It’s a nice ditty I must say; some might venture that it’s a bit girly; most of me agrees that her voice is as good as she looks – but is any of that enough to put it in or out?

I don’t know – but I’ll listen to it again.

Meanwhile – in an attempt to add a bit of credibility to my fading chic-credentials, to try to appear at the cutting edge of innovation but mainly because I like the idea of a demo version with the words fire and snowball – here’s Kate.

You have my vote! Maybe I'll dye my hair. Maybe I'll move somewhere. My song!

Hmmm, so maybe it's true? It's a girls thing?

Thank you Anne! it reminds us that Christmas is not always a happy time. Many people for many reasons have to get through a 'Hard Candy Christmas' from time to time. It's a sad song -- true -- but ultimately it is a very human song of survival and an affirmtion of life.

'Maybe I'll count the stars until dawn. Me I will go on. I'll be just fine.'

Simple fabulous lyrics, I think.

BTW - This one by Kate Bush is brilliant. Reminds me a bit of Joni Mitchell's The River.
