I think this might be another case of our family's disconnect when it comes to "holiday tradition appreciation".
It's like when he used the criteria of "prettiness" tastefulness" and "blending in the the environment" to rank the holiday lights in people's gardens.
I thought we should be awarding top marks to "in-your-face-garishness", "quantity" and "outrageousness"
