Seasonal Conspiracy

I am always surprised when they cut the hay.

It seems that spring has hardly begun, that only days ago we were waiting nervously for the potent arrival of cherries in the market when suddenly you turn around and the meadows are once again empty.

The meadow next to the house (that looks like this in the Spring when there is a GIANT EGG in the middle) has resisted all haymakers and farmers, so far, and remains a bastion of buttercup, thistle and dandelion seed. It is secure home to crickets, bee and dragonfly.

However, tomorrow is June, only 21 days of lengthening days to enjoy before the nights close in.

It’s too short!

Being from the city I don’t clearly understand the ways of the country and maybe I confuse hay and wheat but surely haystack making is SUMMER!

And if it’s summer then it is almost Autumn, and I’m not ready!

I’ve been cheated of a season.

The fields around us are full of giant bales of hay like the ones in your photo ready for the farmers to pick up. Our very own field is a jungle at the moment, home to grass snakes and the like. I agree the season is too short.

Rain has stopped temporarily but high winds are disturbing my pot plants! C'est la vie..
