If Only.

Her dad was an alcoholic; she is an alcoholic.

You don’t have to do things just because your family did, but she has.

Her mother couldn’t cope, so she didn’t.

She can’t, so she isn’t: she was meant to go into rehab Thursday, but Wednesday she left for the coast.

She is going to work in a bar for the summer, if they don’t sack her after the first week.

Like the last time.

Her father worked in a bar.

Her mother too.

You don’t have to follow your families footsteps, but she has.

Except.

She’s bright, she’s smart, she’s young.

Her family had this too, but she has built on it.

If only it could be the spark, and she becomes the bright spark that makes her sister proud.

Her sister isn’t at the moment.

Her sister is giving up.

She knows it’s not the thing to do , but she can’t stop herself.

You don’t have to do what your family did.

But she is.
