Lord of all
hopefulness, Lord of all joy,
whose trust,
ever childlike, no cares could destroy,
be there at our
waking, and give us, we pray,
your bliss in
our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.
Waking up to a
NEW YEAR.
Lord of all
eagerness, Lord of all faith,
whose strong
hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe,
i’m pretty
useless with a lathe, i don’t really understand what i am meant to do with it.
My dad though was pretty accomplished with the thing and had an extensive set
of carpenter's tools. Maybe it wasn’t a lathe – i don’t really know what it is
in fact, but he had a lot of planes. I don’t know how to use them either.
be there at our
labours, and give us, we pray.
your strength in
our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day.
His workshop, as
i remember, was in the garage and occasionally i had to hold the end of a piece
of wood steady as he whittled and wottled (a word i just made up). And holding
steady wasn’t something i was good at either so sessions like this usulally
ended badly for both of us.
Funny though ,
i don’t really remember him having a
workshop before that but he certainly made the drinks cabinet, table and bread
board way before the garage.
Lord of all
kindliness, Lord of all grace,
your hands swift
to welcome, your arms to embrace,
So he was pretty
good with his hands i guess, i was pretty cakhanded. Still am in fact.
be there at our
homing, and give us, we pray,
your love in our
hearts, Lord, at the eve of the day.
Home is ?
Home is where they take you in – someone said that on the radio recently.
Lord of all
gentleness, Lord of all calm,
whose voice is
contentment, whose presence is balm,
Balm. Tiger balm
– there’s a pot on the bedside table. Gets used sometimes.
be there at our
sleeping, and give us, we pray.
your peace in
our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.
Peace and love –
happy new year.
