I bet you think that this blog is just a rag bag collection of bits and bobs stuck together with a bit of show and tell, occasional thematic such as deciding to run a whole year of posts with the title "……of the year", some photographs and very rare moments of clarity and insight.
Well, get ready to be impressed.
You know Iain Macmillan?
Well…
The guy who climbed up a step ladder in 1969 and took a
picture of the Beatles on a zebra crossing in Abbey Road?
Well I bet you think that’s the whole story and that if you
were in a pub trivia quiz competition and the master of ceremonies asked; “in
which order were the Beatles on the zebra crossing?” then you would answer
John, Ringo, Paul, George.
Hah!
That’s only the half of it!
Did you know that prior to the four lads stepping out of the
Abbey Road offices, Iain spent a lot of time getting everything, especially the
lighting and the positions, perfectly right?
And did you know that he did that by using stand –ins?
No, I thought not!
So you wouldn’t know that the ORIGINAL line up on that zebra
crossing was Paul ('cos he wanted to be part of everything), the policeman
(whose job was later to stop the traffic for the final snap), the doorman of
the Abbey Road offices (Mr. Paul Cole) and a cat!
The cat belonged to the neighbor who owned the Volkswagen
car that was parked on the pavement and which can be seen on the album cover,
and was often given a saucer of milk by Mr. Cole and so naturally followed him
wherever he went, even across a zebra crossing.
So if you are in a pub quiz and the question comes up –“what
was the ORIGINAL line up on the Zebra Crossing Photograph shoot for the Abbey
Road album?” – you will now know how to answer.
This is the sort of thing that researchers sift through
Bitsnbobs for!
And, of course, any quizmaster worth his salt will go on -“for a bonus point can you name the cat?”
So can Bitsnbobs help you here too?
Yes!
The cat’s name was Nice.
Isn’t this cool?
Bitsnbobs -the blog
that has all the answers!
Unfortunately, this is all completely made up and came to me
in a dream last night.
Sorry.
So that basically leaves this blog as a rag bag collection of bits and
bobs stuck together with a bit of show and tell, occasional thematic such as
deciding to run a whole year of posts with the title "……of the year", some
photographs and very, very, rare moments of clarity and insight.
Anyway here’s a link to the live webcam that overlooks theaforementioned zebra crossing.
Personally I think you can spend hours watching (i've just checked and even at 21.30 on a Sunday evening there are people having their photo taken AND there's a bird singing!) it though to
be fair one person I tried to share it with this morning said – “you must be
bored.”
