A long one of the year.

excuse me while...

If you have a Quiz of the Year, you have to have a Quiz of the Year deadline.

It follows.

If you have a deadline, you have to honour it.

It follows.

If you are following, then you will know that Botsnbobs – the blog you are following – has had both of these.

And if you have had all of these, you have to publish the answers to the Quiz.

They follow.

The Quiz of The Year 2013, once again, proved to be difficult.

I’m surprised.

My Grandmother could have done it with her eyes closed, which she would have had had to do, being as she is no longer alive.

It follows.

To make it easier I had suggested that the internal blog search divice should be used, and I had added some labels (Quiz of The Year 2103) to some of the relevant posts to help in this search activity.

Sometimes I just gave the month so you had to trawl through a month of posts too find the answers.

Unfortunately, no one could find the search function thingy, nor were they very adept at its use.

Clearly the whereabouts of the aforementioned search engine thingy – which is at the top of the blog on the left, in the blue band (it has a blank space and the symbol of a magnifying glass) AND which has a backup near the bottom of the left side blog components bar (where you will also find the fish) – will be question one in any future (quiz of the year 2014) Quiz of the year.

I repeat.

Clearly the whereabouts of the aforementioned search engine thingy – which is at the top of the blog on the left, in the blue band (it has a blank space and the symbol of a magnifying glass) AND which has a backup near the bottom of the left side blog components bar (where you will also find the fish, clock and thermometer)) – will be question one in any future (quiz of the year 2014) Quiz of the year.

It also transpired that people didn’t really understand ‘Spot’ – even though i had offered a link to the spot the ball competitions which should have alerted you to the fact that spot in this case meant find.

So here are the answers.

1. Spot the Gnome. – 27th January up to his chilly chin in snow. (a ‘quiz of the year 2013’ search in the search thingy throws his picture up in fourth place).

2. Spot the Spider. – 28th July, just fallen or dismounted from his bike (fifth place after the aforementioned search).

3.Spot the odd one out. Diffy, Demst, Soldier, Rabbit.  Soldier  (Putting the words individually into the now-famous search engine thingy would throw up Thought Of The Day 2013 Posts all of which had these words in the title.). Soldier was the only verb. (you might have to read the body of the post to know that being as it, like the others, was an invented word – one of the many hidden services of this blog. i.e. we make stuff up).

4. Spot April 8th.  – Somewhere on The ‘Print of Time page’, in between April 7th and April 9th. (Most of the blog last year appeared on one of four different NEW pages added in 2013. You either had to have known that or clicked on the possibly helpful link on the left side components bar thingy which says ‘Where do I find 2013’.)

5. Spot Degas, Febuary. – Feb 10th on the notice board. (I had assumed people reading the blog knew that there is a tool in the left side components bar thingy called “Past Posts” – the use of which can isolate a month of posts from the mass. I was wrong).

6. Spot the cities and the tartan suitcases, July, August. (3 points). – Paris. London. Under the photographs in front of the metro map July 17th (Past Posts again, plus the realisation that twenty plus of July’s Posts were/are on the hidden NEW pages).

7. Spot Noddy December – 25th December. (He clearly had to feature in the Bitsnbobs Musical Christmas advent Calendar Thingy 2013 which occupied ALL of December).

8. Spot Noddy precisely – (He narrated the story that accompanied the song posted on dec 25th as the credits clearly state at the end of the video).

9. Spot to lay someone a tickling.

Ah.

Number 9!

Number 9, number 9, number 9.

I don’t know what happened here, I can’t find it either!

But it’s in there somewhere, Thoughts of The Day and invented words.

Sorry, the best laid plans of search engines and men……

So...

Who won?

That will follow.

Honest to God, Chris, I will say, with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek -- that your dear, late grandmother must have been a lateral-thinking, puzzle- solving, slightly mischievous, very fun, good sport [just like you!].

Techno-twits unite! It's not too late to save the world from this madness.

She terrified me!

She? Your grandmother who can do the Quiz of the Year with one arm tied behind her back? She, whose name you have invoked several times during the Quizzy Time? She, that you have been using as a weapon against our techno-trepidation? Terrified you? PShaw!

Old folks can do that sometimes without meaning to. If you think about it, she was probably younger than we are now when you were little.

No, she was always ancient!
And her armchair could whither you at three paces!

And!
Lateral thinking!!!
How do YOU explain that you spotted The Gnome on Dec 22nd!!!

I don't know what you are talking about -- did I Spot the Gnome at all? How can I explain it when I am so out of it [it has been and continues to be a stressful time]?

And that tartan suitcase? WHAT?And question number 9 -- now you have changed it to "lay someone a tiCKLing" -- I thought it said "lay someone a ticking" which I can't even imagine what that means.

I guess, it's true what you say, one has to be a grandmother [terrifying or otherwise] in order to find the QOTY easy. Thankfully, I am not a GM yet.

One more thing -- I can't even find February 10 any longer on the blog. It skips from the 8th to the 10th -- and I thought I knew where you had hidden all of the post. And one last 'one more thing' -- What happened to (2)(0)(1)(3)?

Correction -- February skips the 10th -- see, I told you that I am over-wrought!

I'd love to look inside your head Mary!
Now, the blog has more than one page.
here you are on the 'front page'.
Feb 10th is in the 'past posts' on the front page.
There is a 'past posts' tool in the left margin of the blog.
It says 'past posts' and has a drop down menu.
There are about 6 or 7 other pages which are only visible if you open them.
(2)(0)(1)(3) were four extra pages with the majority of the 2013 posts (except the posts posted on the front page).
I regrouped them under the title 'where do i find 2013' which appears in the left margin with the title 'some of the other pages' but i have now moved it to the top of the left margin and it says 'if you have lost anything of 2013" - i assume you realise you have to click on things that are active links?
Feb 8 and 9 are in the page called 'Faits d'hiver(2)'
