Morning Solitudes

Woke, turned over, drifted back into sleep. Dreamt, a shout woke me, a dream shout, turned, drifted back into sleep.

Woke up.

Got up.

Went outside, bare feet on the early damp grass, tried to avoid the mud.

Peed in the meadow – because it’s good.

Walked to the car, stopped, looked at the trees. Watched. Listened to the leaves fall, listened to acorns hitting the leaves as they too fell.

Watched the birds fly back to the feeder outside bedroom door.

Opened carboottrunk and took out the laptop.

Returned to house, opened cat flap, opened fridge, opened bottle of orange juice.

Drank from the bottle – because it’s good.

Entered bathroom, filled sink with hot water, splashed face.

Considered water splash on t-shirt – does it look like Africa, or South America?

It’s going now.

Re-opened fridge, re-opened bottle of orange juice, re-slurpped.

Said hello to first cat.

Took laptop, climbed up to the bed; opened window and curtain – in the other order - repositioned pillows.

Started writing.

And you – how did you begin your day?
