The mists of time.
I’m English.
If I want to talk about something a long, LONG time ago – before even my Aunty Ivy can remember – then I will probably say something like,
“Since the Dawn of Time”.
The French won’t.
They would say something like – ‘“Depuis la Nuit de Temps.”
See?!
We say Dawn, they say Night!
And there, I have decided, is the key to understanding the difference between those who live to the North of The ENGLISH Channel and those that live south of LA Manche.
If we can resolve this enigma, we will be able to explain everything!!
Unfortunately – I can’t.
Sorry.
