Goodbye.

Brain cancer has been slowly laying an impenetrable veil over my mother-in-law and so my wife, whose absences at times can be noticeable, has not returned from her most recent.

I do not begrudge this – among all the people I have ever met her qualifications as Florence Nightingale are only surpassed by those of my own mother, though my judgement there may be influenced by the bottle of Lucosade that my mum always kept handy.

Lucosade did not help Beryl I’m afraid, in the end there was little to be done except hold her hand and bathe her.

As i left Krissie at the airport and drove away to rejoin the ring road a vehicle pulled in front of me from the merging lane.

It was a hearse.

Soon there will be the inevitable day when we plant her into the earth alongside Pete, her husband, and a final headstone will mark a corner of a Sussex churchyard that in time will be largely forgotten by some of those who come to say goodbye.

In time too, the finishing tears will dry and be replaced by memories from healthier times.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to you and to Krissie. Lots of love Krissie, I wish I could give you a big hug.

We carry your hearts in our hearts.

Smile as best you can.

God knows how many smiles you and Krissie have put on the faces of the people who have been lucky enough to see you perform.

Thanks for your blog. It is a mirror to your soul.

Mary, are you the Mary from Vancouver with the two white cats?

Yes, I am THAT Mary -- though I have lived in Toronto for the past 21 years. Both cats passed many years ago. Nice of you to remember them.

Sorry for the late reply -- just checked your blog and hit the link to take another look at Beryl's photo. There is a strong resemblance between Krissie and her mom. My heart breaks for all of you.

Having only chanced upon your blog a couple of weeks ago, I haven't as yet read all of your past entries, so am not sure if you talk about why/when you moved to France and whether or not you still perform? with Alex? Very good to know that you, Krissie, Minnie, and Loui are thriving in that pretty little village.

Mary, from Toronto

Mary, i'm amazed.
How did you possibly chance upon my blog?
What are you doing in Toronto?
What?where? When?Who?
So many questions.
My e-mail is somewhere on the blog , i think in the profile bit, feel free to use it but its nice you coming here too.
I'm not sure that the blog says why we moved to France but it does talk about France.
alex hasn't appeared in the blog yet - i'm still writing about partners before him.
John is in there somewhere! (woodstock last summer i think)
I haven't stepped onto a stage in a long time but i am meant to be directing krissie in her new opera singer with inflating chest number, though events interrupted us.
thanks for your love but keep your heart in one piece, it's life and life only.

Coming across your blog was indeed 'amazing' -- AMAZING being the key word. Not an extremely interesting story -- more serendipity than anything. I'm a public relations/communications consultant that writes a weekly national newsletter and edits a semi-annual publication among other things in the education sector. I was doing some research online looking for references to Covent Garden. [I must be the only person in the world that goes beyong the first page on Google.] My eye caught 'Street Performers' which included a reference to Ra-Ra-Zoo (a name which I recalled). a performer (whose name I didn't recall) mentioned being inspired by a comedy duo, called The Amazing Mendezies, which included Dave and yourself. I, of course, knew you only during your time with Alex so I had never heard of The Amazing Mendezies or Dave, I checked out the link to Dave's site where it mentions your blog.

I was glad to find it. Several years ago I stopped in London for three days and tried to look you and Krissie up with the info I had but you must have already have moved to France.

So many years have passed. Too much to write in this little comment box. [Besides I am a bit of a techno idiot and can't figure out how to register as anything but 'Anonymous'!] I realize that must be part of the reason you've started this blog -- a place to sort out a long life of memories.

Will write separately via email.

Til then, I hope you sort out the travelling arrangements to Sussex. Your presence there is much needed.

Mary

thanks Mary, we will catch up later.
Dave gets a fair amount of mention on my blog, when you have time read "down the rabbit hole" i think there is a link to it in "What did i miss, essential readings" over there on the left.
It's the first.
You must be not only the only person who goes past page one on google, but also the only one to look for the Amazing Mendezies! dave will be very happy.
