Destination Moon

Imagine a point fixed on the Earth facing south –that’s my house.

Imagine someone standing by the front door, facing south – that’s me.

Hello!

Now imagine looking up (so now you’re there too) and seeing the moon, new, over to the west and sinking.

A few nights later (you slept, ate did all those sort of things) and you look up and the moon is fuller and now in the south. And
imagine an arrow drawn across the sky indicating the direction things are going in (this is maybe where I get it wrong).

Ok skip a few days and imagine being outside the same door and looking to the east and watching the moon rise, and then waking in the middle of the night and seeing the moon high and to the south-west and draw an imaginary arrow showing the direction things are going.

What’s going on?
